About Johnny
Johnny was elementally moved the first time he heard the blues and has never looked back. His roots are in the south, growing up in Charlottesville, Virginia, a small college town that had a hot and active music scene in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Many bands came through Charlottesville and stopped for a show as they travelled between Atlanta, DC and New York. Johnny cut his teeth on: Muddy Waters, Charlie Musselwhite, Sugar Ray Norcia, Ronnie Earl, Bob Margolin, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Delbert McClinton, The Charlottesville Blues Allstars & The Nighthawks. He never missed a show, watching, listening, learning and laying the groundwork for his own blues band Johnny B and the Goodes. He became a masterful blues harp player in his own right and over the years developed as a respected blues singer. The first Johnny B and The Goodes formed back in 1980’s Charlottesville. They delivered traditional style blues for several years and when Johnny moved to New Hampshire - the band reformed with new members. In 2008 his CD “Have Mercy” was released on the Big Mo Records label with favorable international reviews as well as radio airplay in both the states and abroad. Johnny has recently returned to Charlottesville and The Goodes are back bigger and better than ever! As an experienced bluesman for over 30 years, Johnny is dedicated to getting the blues out to the people.
He has been thrilled to be able to sit in with the Legendary Blues Band (Muddy's) , Bob Margolin, Tinsley Ellis , The Nighthawks, Little Charlie and the Nightcats, Rick Estrin and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. And has opened for Delbert McClinton, Billy Price & The Keystone Rhythm Band, The Skip Castro Band, The Marshall Tucker Band and Kenny Neal.
